Jadeja’s confirmed domestic assignment

Confirmed selection: PTI, published by Rediff on 9 October, reported that Ravindra Jadeja is included in Saurashtra’s 16-member squad for the Ranji Trophy opener against Chhattisgarh. The match is scheduled for 11–14 October at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Jaydev Unadkat remains Saurashtra captain. The published squad also includes wicketkeeper Harvik Desai, Arpit Vasavada, Chirag Jani, Prerak Mankad, Jay Gohil, Chetan Sakariya and Parth Bhut. The final XI and Jadeja’s actual participation should be confirmed after the toss; selection in the squad is not the same as a completed appearance.

Why Jadeja is playing Ranji Trophy

The timing points to red-ball preparation. India’s two-Test tour of New Zealand is scheduled for November, with the first Test in Wellington from 19–23 November and the second in Christchurch from 27 November to 1 December, according to the PTI report. A domestic first-class match gives Jadeja competitive time in the format before that tour.

The 2026–27 Ranji Trophy begins on 11 October with 19 first-round matches. The Indian Express schedule lists Saurashtra versus Chhattisgarh in Rajkot, making this more than a general tournament story: it has a named player, a named opponent and an immediate match window.

What to watch in the Saurashtra squad

Unadkat will lead the side after his recent Sussex spell, while Chetan Sakariya is another left-arm pace option. Saurashtra must also adjust to the departure of left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, who is set to represent Chhattisgarh. Parth Bhut is expected to carry a larger share of the spin work, but that role remains an expected team-plan detail rather than a confirmed XI choice.

For CricWin24 readers, the useful question is not simply whether a famous name is playing domestic cricket. It is whether Jadeja gets the batting and bowling workload that India’s Test preparation needs. The match result and his individual contribution should be added only after the official scorecard is available.
