Sourav Ganguly named Delhi Capitals head coach for IPL 2027

Delhi Capitals announced on 6 October 2026 that Sourav Ganguly will be their head coach for the next Indian Premier League season. The former India captain is taking a new role with a franchise he already knows well.

A familiar face in a new role

Ganguly first joined Delhi Capitals as an adviser in 2019. He subsequently held leadership roles across the organisation, including director of cricket for its men’s and women’s teams. Delhi’s announcement confirms he is now taking charge as head coach. Reuters identifies the coming season as IPL 2027 and reports that he replaces Hemang Badani, after the team finished sixth in IPL 2026.

The club quoted Ganguly as saying he looked forward to working with the squad and building a strong, fearless team. That describes his ambition for the role, not a confirmed 2027 result.

What remains to be confirmed

The appointment does not by itself confirm a playing XI, a complete support staff or future squad changes. Those details require subsequent franchise and league announcements. For now, the confirmed news is that Ganguly will lead Delhi Capitals’ coaching operation for the IPL 2027 campaign.
