The current stakes
Bangladesh have lost both completed 2026 WCL matches: by seven wickets to England Champions on 5 October and by 37 runs to Australia Champions on 7 October. West Indies are 1–1, having been beaten by 97 runs by South Africa before a seven-wicket win over England. As of the 8 October points-table snapshot, West Indies have two points and Bangladesh have none. A Bangladesh win would change that picture, but neither side’s qualification can be declared from these early results alone.
Recent form and meaningful head-to-head context
Bangladesh’s batting rose from 164/9 against England to 166/6 against Australia, but their attack could not prevent England reaching 166/3 in 16.1 overs or Australia scoring 203/6. Against Australia, Mahmudullah’s 73 not out off 35 balls and Imrul Kayes’ 41 off 30 kept the chase competitive; Abu Jayed took 3/46, a useful wicket tally at a significant run cost. The Australia–Bangladesh scorecard is a stronger guide to current selection than a pre-tournament squad list.
West Indies’ first WCL scorecard showed a steep fall from Chris Gayle’s 60 off 31 to 145 all out against South Africa’s 242/5. On 7 October the response was more controlled: they dismissed England for 154 in 19.1 overs and reached 156/3 in 16.1. Lendl Simmons scored 55 not out off 33, Chadwick Walton 46 off 35 and Raymon Reifer 35 not out off 22. Fidel Edwards, Dwayne Bravo and Reifer each took two wickets, according to the England–West Indies scorecard.
Head-to-head limit: Bangladesh joined the WCL 2026 field; we did not find a verified previous Bangladesh Champions–West Indies Champions WCL meeting before this fixture. Senior Bangladesh–West Indies international records would mix different competitions and players, so no invented head-to-head total is presented here.
Provisional playing XIs — not official team sheets
The following repeat the last verified 2026 match XIs as a baseline. They are projections, not a claim that the same eleven will play Friday; substitutions, roles and the toss can change the teams. Notably, a pre-tournament roster is not evidence that a listed star played on 7 October.
Projection basis: the Bangladesh–Australia 7 October player card and West Indies–England 7 October player card. We do not assign an unconfirmed Friday captain or wicketkeeper.

Key players and tactical matchups
Mahmudullah and Imrul against the West Indies pace-and-change-up group will influence whether Bangladesh can build beyond their recent 164 and 166. Mahmudullah’s unbeaten 73 came from only 35 balls, but the top order needs to leave him a manageable platform rather than a desperate late chase. Edwards, Bravo and Reifer each claimed two wickets against England; how Bangladesh protect wickets through their opening spells is a real test.
Simmons and Walton against Bangladesh’s early overs offer West Indies a steadier route than relying solely on Gayle’s power. Their 55 not out and 46 underpinned the successful England chase, while Reifer’s unbeaten 35 added finishing depth. Abu Jayed’s three wickets against Australia show a possible breakthrough option, but 46 runs conceded in four overs also shows why early wickets must come with run control. These are tactical deductions from recent scores, not asserted historical one-on-one statistics.
Sharjah conditions, weather and toss
WCL’s recent Sharjah innings do not yield one safe average: Bangladesh scored 164/9 and 166/6 in their two games; West Indies made 145 all out against South Africa, then chased 154 against England with seven wickets left. Australia’s 203/6 and South Africa’s 242/5 show higher totals are also possible on the ground. Surface preparation and batting depth can shift the match sharply. The CricWin24 venue guide supplies location context, not a guarantee about Friday’s strip.
The Met Office forecast for Sharjah, viewed 8 October, indicated a sunny Friday, maximum around 38°C, rain chance below 5%, and approximately 32°C at 7 PM UAE cooling toward 31°C by 9 PM. It may change. No match-day observation, dew measurement or ground-specific pitch report was available at this editorial cutoff.
Toss call: The coin flip cannot be predicted. Field first, if the evening surface and conditions suit a chase, is a conditional preference: West Indies successfully chased England’s 154 on 7 October. However, South Africa defended 242/5 and Australia defended 203/6 in other WCL matches; the evidence does not establish a universal Sharjah chasing advantage. A 150–185 first-innings planning band for this matchup is a subjective scenario from these teams’ recent scores, not a measured ground par or a cap on possible totals.
Winner prediction and fantasy watch
CricWin24 editorial lean: West Indies Champions 65% · Bangladesh Champions 35%. These are subjective pre-toss percentages, not calibrated probabilities, betting advice or a promised result. West Indies have the stronger most recent bowling-and-chase performance; Bangladesh have yet to win, though Mahmudullah’s 73 keeps the upset route credible. Quick Bangladesh wickets with the new ball, or another Mahmudullah-led 20-over innings, could reverse this view.
Fantasy captain idea: Lendl Simmons, if selected, after 55 in the England chase. Vice-captain idea: Mahmudullah, conditional on his role and final XI. Risk/differential: Abu Jayed for wicket upside despite his recent economy, or Gayle for boundary upside despite making only four against England. Check the confirmed XIs, fantasy platform rules and toss first; no return is guaranteed.
